A hybrid vehicle has an internal combustion engine and one or more electric motor(s). There are three main categories:

• Mild hybrid: the electric motor supports the internal combustion engine in certain driving phases.
• Full hybrid (self-charging or HEV): the electric motor can operate on its own over short distances. The battery charges automatically as you drive.
• Plug-in hybrid (PHEV): the range in 100% electric mode is greater, but the battery is charged by plugging in.

On average, a hybrid SUV consumes less fuel and emits less CO2 than a 100% internal combustion SUV. It’s the right balance between comfortable size and energy efficiency.

• A hybrid car doesn’t have a conventional gearbox, so driving is smoother and more intuitive.
• The range of a hybrid SUV combines the energy of its battery with that of its fuel tank, for greater freedom of use.
