Dacia Bigster Extreme 1.5 Full Hybrid Automatic reviewI’ve owned my Dacia Bigster Extreme 1.5 Full Hybrid Automatic since May and have driven more than 5,000 miles, including a trip to the Netherlands and back. Overall, it has proved to be an excellent family car, particularly for anyone who values practicality and comfort over a premium interior or sporty handling. We chose the Bigster mainly for its practicality. The large boot was one of its biggest attractions and, at this price point, it offered class-leading space for our needs. It easily accommodates our camping equipment, while the decent ground clearance means we can comfortably drive across fields and uneven surfaces. With a child and a dog, the tough, hard-wearing interior plastics are also a benefit. They may not look luxurious, but they are easy to clean and feel well suited to family life. Interior comfort has been particularly impressive. I’m over six feet tall, and I’ve found the driving position and available space excellent, even on very long journeys. There is also plenty of room in the rear for passengers. The only minor complaint is that the seats can become rather sweaty in hot weather. The suspension copes very well with the poor condition of many UK roads. However, its softness does affect the car’s handling. The Bigster can rock noticeably if the brakes are applied and released too sharply, and the brakes can sometimes feel overly sensitive. On country lanes, the car feels somewhat wallowy through corners, and fuel economy drops to around 40 mpg. The Bigster is at its best as a relaxed motorway cruiser. At around 60 mph, I regularly achieve more than 60 mpg, although this falls to roughly 50 mpg at 70 mph. Even so, it is a pleasant car to spend time in, simply gliding along while quietly covering long distances. The adaptive cruise control is used frequently and works very well in most situations. It is cautious but dependable, although it can become confused on narrower roads where cars are parked on both sides. The hybrid system performs especially well in town and in traffic. Electric assistance makes pulling out of junctions feel confident, and acceleration up to motorway speeds is smooth. The main drawback is the noise. Under heavier acceleration, the engine can sound quite loud and agricultural. The gearbox occasionally drops down a gear more than expected, causing the engine to rev loudly even on relatively mild inclines. There is also an unusual hesitation around 40 mph, particularly when climbing a hill. The electric motor seems to switch in and out repeatedly, which can cause the car to judder. It was disconcerting initially, although easing off the accelerator or applying slightly more throttle usually stops it. The infotainment system is generally very good, but Android Auto has one irritating issue. Occasionally, the steering-wheel volume controls become assigned to the microphone or navigation volume rather than the music, with no obvious way to switch back easily. The door trim also produces a rattle with bass-heavy music, despite the speakers themselves handling the sound well. On motorways, the microphone can struggle to pick up speech clearly over background noise. Despite these compromises, the Bigster has been a very good family car. It offers impressive space, comfort, economy, useful ground clearance, and a practical interior at a competitive price. It is not designed for fast cornering or luxury, but as a comfortable, spacious, slow-paced motorway cruiser and family workhorse, it performs very well.STUART

I purchased my new Dacia Bigster Extreme…I purchased my new Dacia Bigster Extreme Full-Hybrid in July 2026, before that I had the privilege to use a courtesy car of the same model and design. Whilst using the courtesy car I came familiar with the car before getting my own owned one, whilst discovering familiarities between the two same models of design, they certainly are the same with the operations as well as quirks, one common quirk that was the same on both of these models is when you are driving from electric to mechanical at a speed around 30-35mph you experience a judder effect as though your petrol is too low and your running out of fuel – it’s for just a few seconds but you do feel it in the cabin of the vehicles, this seems to be a common fault of which I am sure and confident that Dacia will remedy. Also to point out the elephant in the room – whilst I understand that the Extreme model is supposed to be the top model of all other models of 2026, comparisons of streaming back from other lower specs, it’s a sad shame that the extreme didn’t come with the additions that the journey has being the automated boot amongst other things to adhere the Extreme to be the TOP model in their class from the other three model types. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to come across in a negative way, I am very pleased with the car – which is why I purchased one, it’s just a sad shame that mentioning the TOP model in their class of 2026 seems to be somewhat dampened to not be the top model in their class of 2026, but to be another type of model with different options whilst not occupying the features from the other models – if you understand what I am saying. Also to mention with today’s technology, the Dacia App functions with restrictions for the Extreme Full-Hybrid against other lower spec models – or should I just say from different models of the same era 2026. Maybe this might be me thinking it too deeply, but if I am told and I am to understand – if I by something that tells me it’s the top model range of an era 2026 I would have expected that model to have all features from other models whilst having additional features more superior to the others in their era of 2026 to state the TOP MODEL in their class era 2026! Or am I wrong? I am very pleased with the car I purchased, I would of been ecstatically pleased if it was actually the TOP MODEL of their class era 2026. Yours Respectfully Rob ROBERT
